When can you add identification documents in gov.pt app?
Consult the documents data
The id.gov.pt app allows you to consult the data of the identification documents, updated with an Internet connection, on your phone or other mobile device.
Provide identification to authorities or services
The digital documents in the id.gov.pt app have the same legal value as original physical documents when you need to present them to authorities or services. You can present the digital documents in the following ways:
- by showing the updated digital document
- by showing the QR code of the digital document so that the authorities or services can validate it on another mobile device.
Create a digital certificate from a document
The id.gov.pt app allows you to export the data from each document to a corresponding PDF file. This way, you will create a digital certificate, which you can share with third parties, by email or other channels.
You can, for example, send a digital certificate of your Citizen Card data to prove your address.
The digital certificate in PDF file is automatically signed with a qualified digital signature, recognized, and certified by the Portuguese State and by Regulation 910/2014 of the European Union.
Some PDF readers may not recognize the digital signature. However, the digital signature is valid.
Renew your driving license
About 5 months before the category B license expires, the IMT will alert every driver under the age of 50 to renew their license. This alert will be sent by a push notification via the app to start the renewal.
Validate the digital document data of a third party
The id.gov.pt app allows you to check the authenticity of the data of a digital document of a third party
- through the option "Validate documents" - by pointing the camera of your mobile phone to the QR code of the other person's document
- through the option "Access code" - by entering the code generated by the other person's document.
Authenticate on portals by QR code
When authenticating with the Digital Mobile Key, you can choose to scan a QR code instead of receiving the security code by SMS, for example.
In the app, select the "QR code authentication" option and scan the QR code displayed. Enter the PIN code of the Digital Mobile Key.
Use the app in offline mode
The id.gov.pt app works in offline mode (no internet connection) or online. In offline mode it is only possible to consult the data of the digital documents stored in the app.
