Social Security: change of IBAN only at the counter
From now on, to change or indicate a new IBAN in Social Security, you must go to the Social Security Services in person and hand in a document proving that you own the bank account.
It is therefore no longer possible to change the IBAN online at Segurança Social Direta. This situation has arisen due to the growing number of IBANs changed on Segurança Social Direta without the intervention of the beneficiaries who hold the bank accounts, resulting in a number of scams.
Social Security advises checking the associated IBAN to make sure it is the correct one.
You can check the IBAN by accessing Segurança Social Direta, then clicking on “profile” and then “bank account”.
If the IBAN is not correct, you should immediately contact the relevant authorities, such as the PSP, GNR or Polícia Judiciária, or you can go to a Social Security Service.
