Associate business attributes to the Digital Mobile Key or Citizen Card

To associate business attributes, you need to authenticate yourself with one of the following means:

• Digital Mobile Key (CMD)
• Portuguese Citizen Card

You'll need to enter the company's legal person identification number (NIPC) and name.

If you are an attorney-in-fact, to join you will need an electronic power of attorney in the name of the company, which must be registered on the online Powers of Attorney website (Procurações Online). If you are a proxy for more than one company, you need a different power of attorney for each company.

The first request to associate administrator, manager or director attributes is free. Subsequent requests cost 40 euros.

If you want to associate attributes for another company, or associate attributes for a new position in the same company, it no longer counts as a first request and you will have to pay 40 euros.

The request to join as a proxy always costs 40 euros.

Associating the attributes of administrator, manager or director is valid for a maximum of two years.

Associating the proxy attributes is valid for a maximum of one year.

Making the request to associate the attributes

1. Access the reserved area of the Autenticação.gov portal to associate the business attributes. You will need to authenticate with your Portuguese Citizen Card or Digital Mobile Key (CMD)
2. Choose the side tab ‘My professional attributes’
3. Enter the company's legal person identification number (NIPC) and name.

The request to associate business attributes will be validated by the Institute of Registries and Notaries (IRN) within 48 hours. You will receive a notification to the e-mail address you provided during the request.

Uploading the professional attributes

Once you have received the email confirming that your business attributes have been validated, you need to upload the attributes to the Autenticação.gov desktop application in order to sign documents as a professional.

If you don't upload your attributes, you'll only be able to sign as a citizen.

To load the attributes, follow the steps below:

1. If you don't already have it installed, download and install the Autenticação.gov desktop application
2. Open the application and click on the settings (gear symbol below)
3. Click on the ‘Professional attributes’ tab and then ‘Business attributes’.
4. Choose the attribute you want from the list
5. You can load the attributes by authenticating with your Citizen Card or Digital Mobile Key (CMD).

Authenticating and signing digital documents with business attributes

Once you have associated and uploaded your business attributes, you can authenticate yourself and sign digital documents in the capacity and powers of your position within the company.

To sign digital documents with business attributes, use the Autenticação.gov desktop application, choosing ‘Signature’ and then ‘advanced options’.
